About us

The North Devon Branch is one of the eleven branches of the Devon Beekeepers Association (DBKA) .
DBKA is one of the largest county associations and claims to be the oldest in the world. It was created in 1797 as the Western Apiary Society.

Our North Devon Branch has over 100 subscribed members, located throughout the whole of North Devon. The main social activities of the Branch centre around:

  • Our own Apiary near Bishops Tawton, with working meetings held every Tuesday as well as the last Sunday of the month from April through to October.
  • Social outings including skittle nights, visits to other apiaries and other beekeeping events
  • Managing stands and exhibitions at County and local shows, and entering beekeeping competitions.
  • Training days and beekeeping courses
  • Talks and workshops
  • A library that offers an extensive range of titles covering all aspects of our bees and their world. A listed catalogue of all titles can be viewed on the library page
